NRP is the
newest troupe to the Shea! They were founded in 2010
by resident artist Kimberley Morin, and work under the guidance of
the Shea Artistic Committee and the Shea Board of Directors as a
Shea dedicated, nonprofit group. They are open to and encourage
community participation.
OUR MISSION; To
contribute to the continuance of the historical Shea Theater through
dedicated performance, thus enhancing the cultural and performing arts
scene of Turners Falls and the greater Pioneer Valley.
WHAT MAKES US
DIFFERENT? Our specific purpose in performance
is to raise funds for the Shea Theater's operating expenses. NRP does
not exist as a company outside of the Shea Theater's domain. The group
presents a variety of theatrical genres, both comedy and drama, from
family-friendly presentations to more mature themed, adult based shows.
All proceeds from their productions benefit the Shea as dictated by the
full Board of Directors.
IS THIS AN OPEN
COMPANY? Our auditions are always open to
the general public! We encourage community participation from both
experienced and inexperienced performers. Those on the Artistic
Committee are full members of the Board of Directors, and their duties
encompass much more than simply the running of NRP. They are responsible
for approving scripts, guest artists, and all performances which
will fall under the New Renaissance Players logo. They are
responsible for creating and maintaining a calender to supplement the
Shae income.
Beneath the A.C. there are a core group of players known as "NRP
Players". These are not just regular performers for the NRP
productions. They are the first to audition, but they also work on
productions for NRP, providing set construction, prop and costume
gathering, lights/sound and technical work, and all the other "behind
the scenes" elements that are needed to create quality theater! During
performances you will recognize these folks weaving their magic offstage
by the "I'm an NRP Player!" t-shirts. They are an important part of
NRP's existence.
CAN I JOIN THE ARTISTIC
COMMITTEE? The members of the Artistic Committee
are first and foremost full time Shea Board members. They
are required to participate in all activities hosted by the Shea, as
well as those of the resident companies when needed. The
board is what is referred to as "a working board", and they perform all
duties that are required to keep the Shea a viable performance space.
This can be (and is) everything from grand "Clean Up Days", to
concession stand workers, to selling tickets, and working as house
managers. The Artistic Committee members are nominated from the Board's
membership, and voted on by the full Shea Board of Directors.
CAN I BECOME AN NRP
PLAYER? Certainly! We welcome all who have a love
of theater, be it on the boards or backstage. NRP players are invited to
be such by the Artistic Committee. If you think you might be interested,
contact anyone from the committee - or get involved in a show. You need
only come to a single audition and commit yourself (pun intended!)
I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ALL THAT
COMMITMENT. CAN I POSSIBLY DIRECT A SHOW? The
Artistic Committee does entertain outside directors and scripts. If you
are interested, feel free to submit a script to one of the Artistic
Committee members, or simply mail it to the Shea with A.C.
attention indicated. We will be happy to review any proposals. If
interested you need to:
- be aware that ALL net
proceeds from your show will be returned to the Shea coffers. If you
are an individual or a profitable organization looking to find a
performance venue, please contact the Shea about theater rentals and
package rates.
- get a script in. If it is an original, know that it may be
considered for a staged reading rather than a full production.
- be sure that you have included contact information!
- wait to hear from us.
