      The Day It Snowed Tortillas

      Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. & 1 p.m.
      Crabgrass Puppet Theatre

Creative problem solving is the key ingredient that helps a poor couple outwit a gang of bullies. A poor woodcutter and his wife have the chance of a lifetime – to become rich! All they have to do is keep a secret. Trouble is, the woodcutter is the biggest blabbermouth south of the border. “We have to keep this a secret!” she tells him. “Absolutely!” says her husband. “I won’t tell anyone . . . except my brother . . . and my best friend . . . and my mother . . . and . . .” “Enough!” says his wife. She cooks up an ingenious plan to divert any unwanted attention. All she has to do is make it snow, , , in July . . . in Mexico!
      Grades preK-5.

Tony Vacca's World Rhythms with Massamba Diop and Obdov Sarr

      Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. & 1 p.m.
      Arts Are Essential, Inc
Tony Vacca's World Rhythms concert performance combines elements of traditional African and Afro-Cuban rhythms with the American born tradition of innovation, creating a sound that is both elegant and slamming. It is the hypnotic and powerful sound of giant West African balafons along with special guests African Dancer Abdou Sarr and Senegalese master of the tama or talking drum Massamba Diop, a member of Baaba Maal's world famous band. A very high- energy performance by three master artists!
      Grades preK-6.

NOTE: The previously scheduled March 13th production of Tales from Mother Russia has been cancelled
